Discover the World 50 Years from Now

In the famous words of Abraham Lincoln, the best way to predict the future is to create it. So naturally, a place like Dubai, known for man-made islands, record-breaking attractions and extraordinary innovations, would take the reins in creating the most incredible and awe-inspiring vision for the world of tomorrow.  From this vison, the Museum of the Future was born. Now serving as one of the most well-known landmarks in Dubai, the museum has so much more than just incredible architecture to add to the already impressive attraction line-up of the city.

Making its mark

Even before the opening of the Museum of the Future on 22 February 2022, the architectural marvel was known worldwide. Made of steel and glass, the torus-shaped museum was designed by architect Shaun Killa. Every detail of the intricate building has been thoroughly thought through. The circular form was created to serve as a symbol of humanity, the empty void represents the unknown future, and the mould the structure stands on, represents the Earth.

Not only is the building striking because of its shape and its mean, what really adds to the uniqueness of the museum is the Arabic calligraphy used across the exterior. The credit for the extraordinary design goes to Emirati artist Mattar bin Lahej. The lines of inspirational poetry written across the building belong to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The beautiful calligraphy also serves as windows, filling the interior of the museum with light in a truly unique and mesmerising way. Three quotes cover the outside of the museum, one of which translates to: “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it and execute it. It isn't something you await, but rather create.”

Skyrocket to tomorrow

Once you’ve reached the museum, the awe-inspiring journey begins. After receiving your wristband, which, by the way, is so much more than just your average colourful hand decoration, it’s time to get ready for an elevator ride, straight out of a sci-fi movie. Not to give too much away, all we can say is buckle up and be prepared for take-off!

After an unforgettable ascent, you’ll find yourself in the year 2071, waiting to awe, inspire and amaze you. The Museum of the Future features five themed floors, creating an idea of what the future could hold in various aspects of our everyday lives.

On the fifth floor, guests can channel their inner astronauts as they learn about innovations and explore missions at the Orbital Space Station. Find out how great you’d look in a spacesuit and enjoy epic views of our home planet from up above. Don’t forget to put that magical wristband into good use!

Keep the adventure going as you make your way to the Heal Institute on Level 4. If you’re an avid flora and fauna lover, this is just the place for you.  The floor features two exhibits – The Vault of Life and Digital Amazon. Pay a visit to the DNA library at the Vault of Life to find out how different species could help repair our ecosystem, and don’t forget to keep an eye out for some brand new ones!

If you’ve been dreaming of a trip to the Amazon Rainforest, your ticket to the Museum of the Future will take you there without even having to leave Dubai. Making use of combined reality, a forest is recreated within a Digital Amazon. This gives visitors the unique opportunity to explore the mysterious and magical life in the Amazon, without having to worry about any mosquitos or wild animals ruining the visit.

In a fast-paced, buzzing city like Dubai, everyone could use some zen every now and then. The ultimate relaxation awaits on Level 3 at Al Waha. This futuristic spa, boasting multisensory and meditative experiences, can transport you onto a relaxing beach in the blink of an eye. You’re guaranteed to leave the floor feeling, refreshed, relaxed and rejuvenated. If you ask us, this could definitely be the new after-work hangout spot.

Continue your journey on Level 2, serving as paradise for tech-heads. The “Tomorrow Today” level brings global tech innovations into the limelight, showcasing their importance in shaping the world we live in. Though many of them seem to be a thing of the unforeseeable future, there’s no telling when you’ll be able to snuggle with your very own adorable robot pet.

Kids are the future, so naturally the Museum of the Future boasts an entire floor dedicated to the little ones. The Future Heroes zone, meant for children up to the age of ten, features an open-world experience encouraging children to let their creativity run wild as they tap into their full potential.

After exploring the world of the future, all that time travel might leave you in need of some refreshments. In that case, make your way to Terra Firma and befriend the resident robot barista, ready to take your order. Nothing like a cup of coffee straight from the future!
